Jammu, Apr 6: The ruling BJP is divided over proposed rotation of reserved Assembly seats in Jammu region of the state. This was the reason that the recently held Party Working Committee was forced to drop a resolution in this regard. According to BJP sources, the party legislators are divided over the proposal for getting the reserved Assembly constituencies rotated as some sitting MLAs are strongly opposed to the idea in this regard. Even as a number of 'non-performing' BJP ministers, who are well aware of the ground realities with regard to strong resentment against them among locals, have been pursuing the move so that they may switch to other constituency and avoid wrath of public, sources said, the same is being opposed by several party MLAs. "We are already facing a hard situation because of incompetence of the party ministers, who are least bothered about the cadre, and a shift in the constituency would further leave us with no option to list even our contribution at individual level," explained a senior BJP leader and MLA while opposing the move. This difference of opinion was responsible for the party failure in evolving a consensus over the move for adopting a resolution in this regard in the recently held Working Committee Meeting of BJP. Even as an item in this regard was prominently included in the agenda, which was discussed in the BJP office bearers meeting a day before the Working Committee meet, sources said that the same was dropped for finalization of the draft resolution to be adopted in the wake of no consensus. Except Sham Lal Choudhary, all the BJP ministers either supported the move or gave their silent consent on the same while a majority of the MLAs, particularly Choudhary Sukhnandan vociferously opposed rotation of the reserved seats, sources said. |
