3 BJP MPs, 26 MLAs, 10 MLCs, 8 Ministers and undesirables ruling the roost
'Demographic changes in Jammu'
4/7/2018 11:32:59 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 7: It is BJP which is representing bulk of Jammu province in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council and the whole of Jammu province in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The areas it represents in the Lok Sabha include areas from Lakhanpur to Poonch and Lakhanpur to Banihal. And the BJP represents 25 of the 37 constituencies in the assembly. Some of the areas, which are on the boil, include Kathua, Hiranagar, Samba, Vijaypur, RS Pura, Akhnoor, Sunderbani, Kalakote and Nowshera. These are represented in the Assembly by the BJP.
Jammu city itself is on the boil. It has been gripped by an extreme form of unrest and anger. It is represented in the assembly by the BJP MLAs (3 in number). The Speaker of the Assembly and 5 ministers and half a dozen MLCs reside in Jammu city, which is witnessing demonstrations - big or small - on a daily basis. And those taking part in the demonstrations and holding press conferences include students, political activists, civil society members, including lawyers. The fact is that people belong to all sections of society have upped their ante.
What has fumed the people of Jammu against the BJP include the failure of the BJP to prevail upon the government to handover Rassana rape and murder case to CBI for a fair and transparent probe, grant district status to Sunderbani-Kalakote and Nowshera area of Rajouri district, acute unemployment in Jammu province, gross discrimination with the people of Jammu, official move to encourage land grabbing in Jammu.
People are opposing various moves by successive governments to facilitate land grabbing in Jammu region, with deep rooted conspiracy to change demographic character of the province, especially Jammu district.
"How else should one interpret the February 14, 2018 directions given by the state government to revenue officials in Kathua, Samba, Jammu and Udhampur districts and to the Inspector General of Police, Jammu Division, and the police", they are asking.
These three directions include (1) members of tribal community occupying illegally state and forest land shall not be disturbed and dislocated, (2) police will not provide protection to the officials who wanted to discharge their duty and evict the encroachers, and (3) police and other officers shall not stop members of the tribal community engaged in bovine smuggling.
The most significant aspect of the situation is that the people's anger is directed against the BJP. They are feeling cheated and deceived by the party they voted to power.
"3 BJP MPs, 26 MLAs, 10 MLCs, 8 ministers and Speaker also from the BJP and still the vested interests are ruling the roost in Jammu. It is the duty of the BJP to address our concerns. If they fail, we will also fail the BJP as and when fresh elections are held," they are saying.
