Assam resident joins militants in Kishtwar | He had been in US for 4 yrs | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 7: In a major setback for the security agencies, a non-state subject who was running a business in Kishtwar town has reportedly joined militancy last year, leaving behind his wife and a minor son. As per intelligence agencies, 32-year-old Qamru Din, a resident of Assam, arrived at Kishtwar few years ago to establish a business related clothes. He later got in touch with some hardliners who motivated him for joining the militant ranks. The intelligence sources told the Early Times that Qamru, who was running a shop in Chinar Gali area of densily populated Gudhali Chowk of Kishtwar town, suddenly disappeared in early 2017. Since then he remains untraceable. Qamru, a resident of village Jamunamukh, district Nagaon in Assam, is a graduate and had stayed in America for nearly four years after which he shifted to Bangladesh where he stayed for about two years before returning to India. Sources said the wife of Qamru sought the help of Kishtwar police in tracing him. Before the intelligence agencies sounded an alert, Qamru was reportedly traced in militancy hot bed of Dachhan and Marwah and was seen along with 21-year-old Osama Javed from Dachhan who also mysteriously disappeared last year and has joined militancy. The sources said that Osama and Qamru were often seen together before they both disappeared as both were under the influence of an OGW-cum-recruiter who is motivating the youths to join the militancy. The sources said that even though Kishtwar police has been informed by the various agencies about the joining of militancy by these two youths, nothing is being done. After waiting for few months for her husband to return, the wife of Qamru returned to her home in Assam along with her minor son. The intelligence sources said that Qamru had a few months ago established a contact with his wife on her mobile number and sought details of her bank account, but didn't tell her anything about his whereabouts. The call was later traced to Dachhan area of Kishtwar. The intelligence sources further claimed that after the call was traced, a manhunt was launched to trace him in Dachhan but he managed to flee. Intelligence agencies first suspected that Qamru might have some family issue with his wife and went into hiding or had gone for some business in Anantnag, but later on inquiry, they were shocked to find that he had joined the militancy. The sources said that after surfacing of the matter, Kishtwar police questioned some non-state subjects who were doing business at Kishtwar and were in touch with Qamru and his family. The sources said that the case is fit for National Investigating Agency (NIA). The intelligence sources said that some of their men are in constant touch with Qamru's wife. A senior police officer told the Early Times that Kishtwar police is well aware about the matter and same is being investigated. |
