| Kishtwar municipality fails as drains choke | | | Asif Iqbal Naik

Jammu, Apr 10: The officials of the Kishtwar municipality seem indifferent to Swachh Bharat Abhivan as heaps of garbage are seen lying across the town.
Curiously the administration spent lakhs on the campaign but perhaps forgot to clean the town. This is what the locals feel.
The failure of the municipal authorities has choked the drains especially in Shaheedi Mohallah, Ward No. 7 of Municipal Committee in old locality where 8 inch dia drain constructed by the municipal Committee often gets chocked.
The inhabitants of Umar Mohallah and Baghwan Mohallah accuse the NHPC off failure in building a sewerage treatment and garbage treatment plant within its limit at Semna colony.
The locals informed that majority of the sewerage water and garbage of NHPC colony spills in these areas thus makes the lives of people living in these areas difficult.
The poor drainage system all along the Kishtwar main road passing through Bus Stand, Hospital Chowk, Shaheedi Road, ITI, Malik Market, Dak Banglow chowk, SSP Office, Sangrabata and other areas had also becomes the cause of concern for the people.
The inhabitant of Shakti Nagar, Ward No 10 also rued poor drainage system and sought immediate intervention of concern authorities.
Shopkeepers opposite JK Bank main branch said that around 200 meter municipality drains are full of garbage.
The angry people called for immediate attention of the District administration for addressing the problem of poor drainage and sewerage.
Meanwhile President PAF Kishtwar Shakir Siddiqui also criticized district administration Kishtwar and Municipality for not cleaning and maintaining the cleanness in the Municipal areas. |
