Ex-student leader likely to join regional politics | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 10: A former student leader pursuing her higher studies at a leading university in New Delhi is likely to join mainstream politics in her home state of Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said the recently hosted discussion on Kashmiri youth, where this student leader was also invited in Srinagar was the "curtain raiser", before her formally joining the regional politics. It is believed to have been her first performance in homeland Kashmir. Sources said a political party had facilitated the event to introduce her to politics in Kashmir. "Youth leaders from mainstream parties where invited to the event so that she gets acquainted with them," the sources said. They said two regional political parties including PDP and the National Conference had been in touch with her, asking her to join them. "She is interested in one of the parties. Her family has a long association with one of these parties and she is likely to join them," said a source close to her family. The former student leader faced criticism for remarks she made during the discussion recently held at a five-star hotel in Srinagar. Sources said as her remarks triggered controversy, she was asked by her "well wishers in the political party to clarify her statement before media." "She subsequently called a press conference to try and clear the air," said sources close to her. Sources said the student leader is accompanied by some of her university colleagues to Kashmir where they have been holding meetings with various parties. Sources said the former student leader is interested to join politics in her home state, though she has been getting similar offers from national parties as well. "Till now she has not denied such reports so it's obvious that she will join regional politics," said a source close to the family. Despite repeated attempts, the student leader couldn't be contacted for comments. |
