4/10/2018 10:34:23 PM
Early Times Report
Rajouri, Apr 10: Professor Javed Musarrat , Vice Chancellor ,Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) placed under suspension Prof Asghar Ali, Assistant Professor facing charges of sexual harassments.
The action came immediately after a compact Disc carrying evidence against the said Professor was received by the Chairperson Women Cell of BGSBU through post at about 4 pm on Monday and was handed over to the Vice Chancellor (VC) for examination and action.
"After having gone through the contents of the compact disc, VC immediately placed under suspension Prof Asghar pending inquiry and also decided to re-investigate the matter by a Competent Inquiry Committee" said Danish Iqbal, BGSBU, spokesman.
Earlier on Monday, district administration has handed over the sexual harassment case to police alleging that the BGSBU administration despite their assurances didn't respond appropriately in the investigation.
On April 3, after a personnel complaint lodged with Dr Shaihid Iqbal Choudhry District Magistrate (DM) by the girl students along with evidence related to alleged sexual harassment by the Professor in question, District Magistrate had called the Registrar, accused Professor along with other senior officials, but they did not show up.
A female faculty member has also complained about the sexual harassment and on April 7, Registrar , Iqbal Parwez had met with the DM and the case was also discussed and it was mutually decided to cooperate in the matter. Registrar was also requested to hear the female faculty member.
However, instead extending the cooperation BGSBU administration came out with a press release claiming that as no evidence provided by the complainants.
"The complaints received by the office of DM are of sensitive nature and need an early redressal. In wake of the stand taken by the BGSBU management (declaring all the complaints as anonymous), the case is being handed over to police for investigation" said a senior officer in DM office.
