SKUAST-J organizes awareness camp | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 13: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology today organized an awareness camp here today. According to press release, Suchetgarh under the DST funded project entitled "Enhancement of Livelihood security mong Livestock rearers through Technological Interventions". Dr. J. P. Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu was the chief guest and inaugurated the programme. Approximately 70 dairy farmers participated in the programme in which more than 150 animals were treated for various ailments by the experts from Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & A.H. Dr J. P. Sharma highlighted the relevance of scientific management practices to be adopted for rearing of dairy animals. He informed that the sole purpose of the programme is to disseminate the latest technologies related to livestock rearing and health management at farmers door step and to have a detailed interaction with the farmers to know their problems and provide on spot solutions. Dr. Rajiv Singh, Professor and Mentor of the project highlighted the role of minerals in livestock health and production. He informed that feed and fodder offered to lactating animals fail to meet their requirement thereby lead to poor production, unsatisfactory growth and infertility. A brief introduction highlighting objectives and nature of activities to be carried under project was presented by Dr. Ravleen Kour, P.I. During discussion various issues were raised by farmers regarding the vaccination, deworming, diseases diagnosis, outbreaks etc. which were satisfactorily redressed by experts. The farmers were made aware of the new technological interventions and the UMMB (Urea Molasses Mineral Block) benefits and preparation details for improving their productivity & animal health. The cleanliness of sheds, clean milk production, method of milking etc were briefly discussed. Farmers were advised to vaccinate their livestock against common prevalent diseases like FMD, HS and BQ. Among others programme was attended by Dr. Rajesh Agrawal, Associate professor, Division of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. A. K. Panday, Assistant Professor, Division of Animal Reproduction, Dr. Manmeet Singh, VAS, Department of Animal Husbandry and Shri Swaran Lal, Sarpanch (Suchetgarh). |
