Fearing backlash, BJP leaders avoid Hiranagar highway | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 13: The top brass of BJP is these days avoiding travel on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway, fearing the wrath of residents of Hiranagar who have been demanding that the Rassana rape and murder case be handed over to the CBI. On late Thursday, a senior BJP leader's cavalcade passed through Hiranagar without any siren, sources told Early Times, adding that this was done to ensure that nobody noticed him. "The police diverted the attention of Hindu Ekta Manch workers and give safe passage to the cavalcade of the senior BJP leader towards Billawar to reach his home constituency where he had to attend some functions. Earlier last week, the same leader had to change route and travel via Mansar to reach his home in Basohli tehsil of Kathua," sources said. Also, Union Minister Dr Jatindra Singh used chopper to reach Billawar to address a public meeting. Dr Singh, a local MP, held public meeting at Billawer on April 8 after his chopper landed at Bhaddu village from where he travelled via road to reach Billawar. Dr Singh is a Lok Sabha member from Udhampur-Doda seat, and Hiranagar is part of the constituency. "The two BJP leaders did not show guts to face the people," said sources. The alleged victims of police atrocities, women of Rassana, are sitting at Kootah Morh on the highway, demanding transfer of the alleged rape and murder case of a nomad girl of Rasana to the CBI. "The anger against the BJP leaders is brewing by the day as no minister has come in front to support the demand of the local people. Due to this, the BJP minister had to face the wrath of the people," sources said. The women who are on fast unto death from last one week at Kootah Morh, but no one from the BJP has visited them to listen to their grievances. This act of BJP leaders has cost them heavily as protestors decided to oppose and show black flags to ministers of BJP and PDP. Earlier on April 5, the Rasana women along with Panthers activists showed black flags to PDP minister Abdul Haq Khan and BJP minister Priya Sethi and forced them to leave a function midway. On April 7, women showed black flags to BJP minister Sham Lal Choudhary when his cavalcade passed through highway at Hiranagar. Highly placed sources also said that a Kisan Mela, scheduled to be held at village Dhalli in Hiranagar to be attended by a senior BJP leader has been cancelled due to the anger of Rasana protestors. |
