| HC seeks checklist of important aspects regarding Gulmarg development | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 13: The State High Court has sought checklist of important aspects relating to development of Gulmarg, the world famous ski resort in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.
Hearing a Public Interest Litigation, a division bench of Acting Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice M. K. Hanjura asked Chief Town Planner to submit the checklist by or before May 9. The court also directed the CTP to prepare a Scheme or a proposal for development the ski resort "keeping in mind the best practices adopted all over the world in respect of similar resorts as that of Gulmarg."
Previously, in a bid to prevent entry of construction material and polythene to Gulmarg, Court directed installation of CCTV cameras on toll and check posts leading towards the famous resort. It has also directed the authorities to ensure that non-biodegradable plastic do not enter into Gulmarg where it has been already banned.
The court was hearing the PIL filed in 2012 by one Mohammad Rafiq Zargar, seeking directions for protection of fragile environment of Gulmarg.
The court has time and again said that a duty is cast on all the functionaries of the State responsible and entrusted with the assignment of maintaining the glory and beauty of the world famous tourist resort, Gulmarg, to maintain its standard in all its forms. |
