Jammu, Apr 13: President and the incumbent Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti here on Thursday appointed Safina Baig as President of the PDP Women's wing. Safina Baig, a law graduate from Aligarah Muslim University choose to give up her studies as LL.M student at Jamia Millia University Delhi much before 2002 assembly elections and join J&K High court as a practising lawyer. She started connecting herself to the people at the grass roots from the year 2002 when PDP for the first time challenged the unchallenged National Conference in the assembly elections. Safina known for keeping touch with the PDP workers for last more than fifteen years in Baramulla district also represented some key departments of the J&K Government as a practising lawyer during the reign of erstwhile PDP-Congress coalition government first headed by late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and later by Gh Nabi Azad.

My focus would be on women empowerment and rehabilitation of widows and orphans in the state. I am deeply concerned about the plight of women sufferers and I will try my best to bring them out from the phase of trauma which is my bigger concern. I hope Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and her government would extend full support to me in my future endeavors." She also said that tapping human resources left unutilised so for would be also high on her priority as there is lot of talent in Jammu & Kashmir which deserves the immediate attention for mitigating the sufferings of the people.
Saying that she has been deeply impressed by the political acumen of Muzaffar Hussain Baig who she said is a statements of high stature Safina Baig said "Like Muzaffar Hussain Baig I will try to work as a politician with the spirit of worship". She also said that the investigations in Kathua rape and murder case are ongoing smoothly and the culprits behind the gruesome incident will be punished.
