Axe likely to fall on teachers who instigate students for violence | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 23: Government has taken a serious note of anti-national protests in few educational institutions as the authorities are set to take action against teachers, who have been part of protests or instigating students for violence. Student protests have become a norm in Kashmir. The protests by handful of students in educational institutions is badly hitting the education sector of the Valley. Government has told the students that they would be treated as rowdies if they keep coming on roads. "And if they still want to come on roads then we will close educational institutions for ever and students will be responsible for it," Minister for Education Altaf Bukhari said on Saturday. At the same time, the teachers where the protests are norm, are under the scanner. "The Government has directed the security agencies to prepare a dossier against those employees who had been part of recent violent student protests in Kashmir," an official said. The official said that government has got reports that several government employees especially teachers had been part of violent protests in Kashmir. "When students were clashing with forces, we have reports that several teachers also took part in it. Few teachers either instigate students neither make any efforts to pacify them," the official said. "Some were part of stone pelting while several had provoked the students to clash with forces," he said. The action will be taken against them as per the rules, he said. Earlier in 2016, the government dismissed 12 employees from their services for being part of violent protests during the unrest. The police had framed a list of over 200 employees who have been allegedly part of unrest in the Valley and many were arrested but only 12 were sacked. The State Government is invoking Article 126 of Jammu and Kashmir Constitution for terminating these employees. The official said these officials would also be dismissed as per termination orders issued to 12 terminated employees earlier which states that "the acts of these employees are not only aimed at questioning sovereignty and integrity of India but also violate Rule 14 and 20 of the J&K Government Employees Conduct Rules 1971". "Their continuation in service will not only set a bad precedent but would tantamount to putting a premium on indulging in misconduct, subversion and anti-national activities," the dismissal orders of 12 employees reads. The terminated officials according to sources are not entitled for post retirement benefits from the government as they are not retiring voluntarily but being terminated for the involvement in anti-national activities. But the government could grant compassionate allowance in a deserving case not more than two third of pension or gratuity, an official of the General Administration Department said. The government employees were also dismissed in the State in 1986 and 1990 for allegedly indulging in "anti-national activities". |
