Police offers salary to teacher less than a labourer
Where're Labour laws?

Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 23: The J&K police, which is supposed to check violation of laws, has itself turned into a law violator in Doda district, where it has offered a consolidated pay to a teacher, which is even less than the amount paid to an unskilled labourer.
According to an advertisement notice issued by Deputy Inspector General of Police Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range, Batote, who is also administrative officer of Police Public School (PPS) Doda, applications have been invited from candidates for one post of Urdu teacher in the school.
As per advertisement, PPS Doda has sought minimum qualification for Urdu teacher as B.A/B.Ed having Urdu as one of the subjects in Graduation, with above 50 percent marks. But the selected candidate will be on contractual basis and will be paid consolidated pay of Rs. 5,000 per month.
Contrary to it, as per Minimum Wages Act and Rules in Jammu and Kashmir, Minimum Fixed Labour, which was issued vide notification dated 26th of October 2017, daily minimum wage for an unskilled worker is Rs. 225, whereas for Skilled is Rs. 350 and for highly skilled is Rs. 400.
The PPS Doda has sought B.Ed, which is a professional qualification, which means as per labour laws, the teacher must be paid Rs. 350 per day and minimum of Rs. 10,500.
But as per advertisement, even the Urdu teacher will be denied even the basic monthly wage of unskilled labourer but he will be getting Rs. 1700 less than the unskilled labourer.
While criticizing the denial of minimum wage to a teacher by Police department, RTI activist Raman Sharma said that such exploitation at the hands of Police department must be stopped.
"A qualified teacher is not even paid wages of an unskilled labourer, which is really shameful and open exploitation", Sharma said, adding that he has already taken up the matter with the Finance department and Home Ministry for stopping such exploitation of qualified youth.
