Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 23: To run the Government Ayurvedic Medical College Jammu, the Health and medical Education department has rendered 13 dispensaries of Indian System of Medicine (ISM) defunct. In September last year, the department issued an order (No: 471-H&ME of 2017, dated 01/09/2017) regarding deployment of teaching/non-teaching staff to Government Ayurvedic Medical College, Jammu wherein they engaged 13 Medical Officers (MOs) from different dispensaries of Jammu province as lecturers and consultants to run first batch of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS). In the process, 13 dispensaries were rendered defunct. Sources said that out of 13 teaching deployment, four of them were deployed from district Kathua which is already facing acute shortage of MOs. "Presently, there are 14 MOs short in hilly and far flung areas of district Kathua", said sources while wishing anonymity. Besides, five MOs were deployed from district Jammu and one each from Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri and Samba districts, said sources. They said the mismanagement of the Health department can be gauged from this fact that not a single MO has been engaged at these dispensaries so far from where they were relieved for Ayurvedic college and now pharmacists are running these dispensaries. Sources said most of the staff was engaged on temporary basis at Ayurvedic Medical College Jammu as lecturers, consultants and readers. Some of the appointees have not even fulfilled the eligibility criteria for the posts. "It shows that something is fishy in whole episode of appointment of lectures, consultant and readers to run first batch of BAMS," said sources. |
