Situation in Kashmir alarming | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 28: Former J&K Director General of Police Kuldip Khoda has asserted that Kashmir would witness more violence in 2018 as compared to 2017 and has questioned the New Delhi's Kashmir policy. He has disclosed that he sent many reports to New Delhi regarding the developing situation in Kashmir and opined that had it acted on these reports, the situation in Kashmir would have been somewhat different. What former DGP said could not be ignored. There are reports from Kashmir which clearly suggest that situation on the ground in Kashmir has deteriorated with the killing of more security forces. The South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP) says deaths "rose from an average of 166 during 2012-2015 to 267 in 2016, 358 in 2017 and 96 in 2018 (till April 2018). The BJP leadership and security chief have claimed that "this was due to better counter-terrorist actions". They have their own logic. Experts and Kashmir-watchers say, "Till 2015, more killings of security officials in India was done by the Maoists. In 2015, the Maoists killed 57 security officials, while Kashmir saw 41 deaths". "From 2016 onwards, the trend changed. Eighty-eight security officials were killed in 2016 and 83 in 2017 in the Kashmir Valley compared to 66 and 74 in Maoist areas. This year, 25 security officials have been killed in Kashmir till April 8," they have further said while asserting that the country could witness more violence in the Valley in the coming summer months. So, if one goes by the South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP) and what Kashmir-watchers say and opine, then it can be said that things are not inspiring. |
