Police treats Yasin Malik as holier than thou! | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 28: Even as the government is expected to cut separatist leaders to size, in restive Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Police look at the anti-national elements with so much of respect and regard that the JKP has released special handout to clarify lest such leaders feel displeased. Something of this sort happened today, when the Jammu and Kashmir Police issued a handout only to react to allegations as leveled by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front that its Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik was roughed up by police for misbehavior with cops on duty in Srinagar. The JKLF this morning alleged that Yasin Malik has roughed up by police for having argued with cops on duty in downtown area. But instead of giving a damn to the allegations as made by the anti-national elements, the police ensured to issue a formal statement to clarify its position and to say that former militant commander Malik was not roughed up or harassed, despite his unwarranted behaviour. The police handout started with these introductory lines. "This is in reference to the news items circulated by the Media agencies wherein they have claimed that JKLF Chief Yasin Malik was assaulted and arrested by a Police Team at Khanyar when he was on his way towards Jamia Masjid for addressing a rally," the police handout said. "Facts pertaining to the situation are that a team from police station Khanyar was on a routine Naka duty when at around 12:10 PM today afternoon a Sedan Car Honda CRV bearing registration No DL3C AK 2197 was intercepted by the naka party. The travelers inside the car were requested to produce the registration papers of the said car. However the travelers inboard which included JKLF Chief Yasin Malik and Bashir Kashmiri instead of producing papers created obstruction in the lawful duty," the police handout said. "In this connection Police has initiated action under relevant provision of law. Allegations circulated in certain sections of media pertaining to alleged harassment to these individuals is strongly rebutted." The main question which the police handout raises is that does police need to react to statements of anti-nationals? And if Yasin Malik and his gang had obstructed duty of police in a sensitive place like Kashmir, why shouldn't the cops have taught lesion to such people, who openly raise voice against the country and obstruct police work in a sensitive place like Kashmir? Let's hope that much like reaction to the JKLF handout, the JKP will mind to issue clarification with regard to this story published by Early Times. After all, when police are responsive to anti-nationals, they are expected to be responsive to pro-India voices like this newspaper as well because we are proud to wear nationalist sentiment on our sleeves. And thus we need replies from police for being so concerned about displeasure shown by JKLF. |
