615th Tree Talk event organized by IIIM | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 28: On the occasion of Save the Frogs Day today, 615th Tree Talk event was organized in the herbal garden of Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine Jammu in collaboration with IIIM, Rotary Midtown Jammu. Speaking on the occasion, O P Sharma Vidyarthi, Director Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing said that 3070 conserving trees means conserving water and conserving water leads to conservation of amphibians which are on the decline in India because of widespread land use changes. "Degradation of forests, pollution and reclamation of ponds and wetlands in the backdrop of Climate Change, non-biodegradable plastic pollution and irresponsible consumerism was the main focus of today's green interaction", he added. Dr Rajneesh Anand and Sumit Gairola while welcoming Tree Talk enthusiasts to herbal garden IIIM elaborated outcome of field and laboratory investigation related to cancer research highlighting anticancerous potential of two trees Dysoxylum binectariferum and Nothapodytes nimmoniana. Sushma Gupta and Dr Anamika Khajuria President and Project President Rotary Midtown Jammu 3070 while pledging to spread awareness in schools about planting of useful aromatic and medicinal plants & interacting with experts highlighted medicinal cum herbal use of plants like Shatavar, Adusa, Vidarikand, Tinospora Guduchi, Tulsi and Sita Ashok. Saleemulhaq DFO while sharing inputs on trees of Shivalik shared that Sheesham tree Dalbergia sissoo so far known for timber qualities has emerged as medicinal tree as per research of CSIR branch Central Drug Research Institute Lucknow, Medicine DalZbone relieves in knee pain and helps in quicker bone healing.On the occasion herbal tea and Pakauda derived from tender pods of Sheesham were innovated for the benefit of those who believe in nature cure and Ayurvedic prescriptions. Frogs of Family Rhacophoridae called Glider frogs have arboreal existence and glide over trees, infact many frogs diversified alongwith angiosperm tree diversification, deforestation and drying up of water bodies leading to decline, amphibians play important ecological role as pest controllers, ecological indicators and as food for many wild animals. |
