Early Times Report Rajouri, May 10: Most of govt schools in remote areas in Rajouri district face shortage of teachers and the children from poor families are denied quality education. On one hand the government claims to have provided teachers even in the remotest schools but the reality is totally different. The teachers manage their posting in urban areas.. Many government schools situated in the vicinity of Rajouri HQs, tehsil HQs and situated on the road sides are flooded with surplus teachers while the schools in remote areas having only between 2-5 teachers (middle/high) to take classes upto 8th and 10th. It's worth noting that more than 90 percent children, who take admissions in government schools in rural, far-off and sometimes in urban areas, belong to poor families who can't afford their studies in private institutions. Political interference is another major reason for shortage of teachers in remote areas. A senior education officer said that out of 7824 sanctioned posts of teachers (including general line teachers, masters, ReT ) 680 posts are still vacant in Rajouri district "Teachers having political background manage their attachments/ postings in the easly approachable schools leaving the poor students high and dry," said Chamel Singh , lamberdar. Recently Chamel Singh and other resident of Jatan Male in Kalakot tehsil held protest demonstration at middle school alleging only 3 teachers for 130 students. "Out of 6 sanctioned posts of teachers one was transferred, another was suspended for misappropriation of Mid Day Meal ration and third (Hindi) teacher was temporarily sent to high school at Tatpani," said the Lamberdar. He warned to come on the roads along with their children if the teachers were not provided soon. 'Immediately after the protest, Ch Lal Hussain, CEO has directed the Hindi teacher to re-join Jata Male middle school immediately. He also assured to provide other teachers soon" said Mohd Qasim, Zonal Education Planning Officer (ZEPO). |
