JAMMU, May 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a man for duping people by impersonating as ATM guards in different ATMs in south Kashmir. Imran Ahmad Sheik would tactfully exchange a dysfunctional ATM card when some person would seek his help in withdrawing cash.
Acting on a written complaint filed by Uttresso-resident Habibullah Teli, the Achabal police identified and subsequently detained Imran Ahmad Sheik, a resident of Hardu-Sichen Dialgam, Manoj Pandita, police spokesperson said.
In his application, Teli stated that while withdrawing cash from ATM at Shangas, Achabal, one unknown person in the garb of assisting in withdrawal of cash, fraudulently exchanged his ATM card and thereafter withdrew an amount of Rs.36000 from his account.
After the investigation started, the police obtained the CCTV footage of the ATM. "While scrutinising the footage, the investigation officer observed that the cheater as well aware about the location and spatial angles of capture of CCTV cameras installed and has tactically concealed his face with the help of cap," Pandita said.
The accused left no scope for the cameras to grab the picture of his face as such avoiding his detection in the video grabs, the spokesperson added.
"However the keen observation of the video and other series of frames offered few clues about his appearance.Frames from video and photographs were further analysed and suspects were called up for investigation. The lead was further developed and identification of suspects was carried out," he said
He said that Imran has duped a lot of people fraudulently during the past few years impersonating himself as ATM guard in the different ATM kiosks. |
