A female student who appeared for the National Eligiblity-cum-Entrance Test on May 6 in Palakkad district of Kerala has filed a police complaint, alleging that an external observer had stared at her 'inappropriately.' The girl waas told to remove her innerwear to answer this year's NEET exam as authorities said it had metal hooks which would set off a metal detector.
According to the student's sister,''the invigilator came and stood before her several times. He did not look at her face.. but at her chest. she tried to cover herself with the question paper.''
My sister was mentally tensed. The invigilator came near her two to three times.. she found it difficult to write the exam properly, she was uncomfortable," she said. Kerala police officers said they are speaking to "more witnesses" who had appeared for the test in the same school. Based on her complaint, a case was registered under IPC sect 509 (eveteasing by word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and investigations have begun, police said. Meanwhile, a regional CBSE official said they are yet to receive a complaint on the matter. "We are inquiring and a report is expected by next week," Tarun Kumar was quoted as saying by PTI. Over one lakh students had appeared for the test from Kerala this year.
