If terror stops, operations will cease: Ram Madhav on Mehbooba Mufti's ceasefire remark | | | Agencies
Srinagar/ New Delhi, May 11: Two days after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti called for unilateral ceasefire, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav said that security forces would end their operations in the Valley if "terrorism stops". He also objected to the use of word, "ceasefire" by Mehbooba Mufti. Ram Madhav said, "We shouldn't be using terms like ceasefire etc in this situation. If by ceasefire, one meant ceasing of operations by forces in the valley during Ramzan, what is expected is that during Ramzan terrorists will abstain from terrorist activities." "Terrorists should stay away from these activities during Ramzan. If terrorism stops operations will automatically stop. Forces are duty bound to save people. We are open for talks but as far as terrorism is concerned it is our duty to deal with it with an iron hand," Ram Madhav asserted. Ram Madhav had played the pivotal role in stitching BJP-PDP alliance in Jammu and Kashmir after the last Assembly election resulted in a hung house. Earlier on Wednesday, Mehbooba Mufti held a four-hour all-party meeting to discuss the present situation in the Kashmir Valley in the aftermath of the killing of a tourist from Chennai in stone pelting on May 7. After meeting, Mehbooba Mufti had said, "Everyone (all parties) agreed that we should appeal to the Centre to consider a ceasefire like the unilateral ceasefire in (former PM Atal Bihari) Vajpayee's time in Ramzan (later this month) till Amarnath yatra and Eid." |
