Srinagar, May 11: The state High Court on Friday granted bail to a doctor who was convicted in connection with BOPEE scam engineered by the former BOPEE chairman Mushtaq Ahmad Peer. "The accused applicant herein shall be released from custody in case she furnishes a bail bond to the tune of Rs. 50,000/- with a surety of the like amount to the satisfaction of Incharge Jail, where she is lodged at the moment," a bench of Justice M K Hanjura said while allowing a petition filed by Dr Parveen. Dr Parveen, mother of one of the accused beneficiaries, was convicted and sentenced in the infamous BOPEE scam. The architect of the scam was convicted and sentenced by special anti-corruption court to a total of 16 years of rigorous imprisonment. It also imposed a fine of Rs 1 crore on Peer and Rs 50 lakh on another accused, Sajad Ahmad Bhat, who was acting as a broker in the scam. The court has convicted 43 accused, including Peer, in the case, while it acquitted seven others. |
