Addressing a press conference here today, the EPTWS president and the general secretary Jyoti Vaid and Mohd Sharif respectively warned that if their genuine demands of revocation / withdrawal of the operational policy of the custodian department is not accepted, the tenants will be forced to launch massive agitation and will stop payment of rent to the department. The duo said that on April 1 last, the working body of the Welfare Society accompanied by Rajesh Gupta (MLA Jammu East) held a meeting with the then Revenue Minister and apprised him the problems being faced by the tenants. The Minister said that the prevalent policies will be discussed after calling Custodian General, Custodian and representatives of the Society within fortnight which could not be materialized because of his pre-engagement. They said that the department is charging heft amount from the tenants of the houses, kholas, land and orchards but spend nothing for renovation / up-gradation of houses of poor tenants but the department is establishing business hubs out of rent collected from tenants and constructing new flats, buildings, banquet halls and shops to bring their name in the books of the government. |
