Kashmiri Pandit booked for abusive tweet, but what about pro-Pak trollers? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 13: Even as the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday booked a Kashmir Pandit for his abusive tweet against a particular community, what about thousands of social media accounts run by an army of pro-Pakistan trollers living in Kashmir. Within hours of the objectionable tweet was posted by the accused Pandit, the police filed a FIR and instantly issued a police handout. "Kashmir Police today booked a twitter user after he rolled out few abusive tweets from his twitter handle. Police in Kashmir took cognizance of the matter after it found tweet posts were abusive and attract offences covered under law," the police handout said. "Consequently Police has registered a case in this matter at Police Station Kothi Bagh under FIR No: 39/2018 under section 505(1) C RPC, 66 IT Act. Investigation in the instant matter has been started to ascertain the facts pertaining to the case," the police handout added. The police said they have "also directed a communication to the authorities in Twitter India requesting them to provide the details of this particular twitter user so that he is made to face the law." But while the police was prompt enough to book a Kashmiri Pandit, there are numerous such twitter handles, Facebook accounts and other types of accounts on social media, which spew anti-India venom. Interestingly many such accounts are not fake but run by people who own their identify on social media. So if a Pandit has been instantly booked, why no action against similar faces in Kashmir, who enjoy impunity for years. This question has been doing the rounds in the civil society sections of Jammu province, where most of the migrants live for years. "We are not against FIR from someone from our community if he did wrong. But why no action against others who post similar posts against us or India for years?" asked a group of Kashmir Pandits. They said the ruling dispensation has been callous towards the Pandit minority community since day one. "This coalition had assured rehabilitation of migrant Pandits, what happened to those promises as mad by PDP and BJP?" the displaced community asked. They said police had become a political tool at the hands of politicians and was being used to set political agendas. Despite repeated attempts the concerned police officials couldn't be contacted for comments. |
