KUPWARA, May 25: Army claimed to have foiled another infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Friday. A top army official said that soldiers of 20 JAT posted at Eagle Post on Friday wee hours detected movement of three to four infiltrators who tried to sneak into this part. After being challenged, the infiltrators and the troopers exchanged a brief gunfight, the officer said, adding that the attempt of the infiltrators was foiled, the official said. A massive search operation was launched in forest areas of Keran sector. Official sources said the searches were launched following the apprehensions. During the searches at Gogaldara area, army's 5/9 GR recovered 4 magazines of AK- 47, 34 rounds, 01 GPS, 01 YSMS set, 02 binacular, 01 USB cable, 01 radio booster antenna, and other eatable items. Pertinently on May 18, army had claimed that three militants were killed in a gunfight at Brinjal forest area of Vilgam, Handwara in this north Kashmir district. Soldiers of 15 RR intercepted a group of militants believed to be infiltrators at Brinjal forest adjacent to Shahnagar Jat Gali, around 7 kilometers away from Tehsil headquarter Vilgam in Handwara area. "The group of militants opened fire upon the forces which were retaliated by the troops triggering a gunfight, the army official said. The official said that the militants fired indiscriminately and in the gunfight that ensued, three infiltrators were gunned down. "We are ascertaining their outfit affiliation, adding the operation is still going on, as there could be a chance of few more infiltrators in the area, the official told early times. He further said that this is the second infiltration bid foiled by army in Kupwara district during the month of Ramzan. Meanwhile SSP Kupwara, Shriram Ambarkar told Early Times that we have got some information about infiltration bid from army in Keran sector, adding we are confirming the reports from Tangdar sector also. |
