GMC Principal 'proves herself incompetent before HC'

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 28: It appears that the Principal of Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu is projecting herself incapable of heading this institute before the House Committee which met few days ago.
Credible sources told Early Times that a Joint House Committee on Medical Negligence (JHCMN) headed by its chairman Ghulam Nabi Monga and members GM Saroori, Naresh Kumar Gupta, Ali Mohammed Dar, Firdous Ahmed Tak and Ramesh Arora and others visited GMC, SMGS Hospital, and Government Gandhi Nagar Hospital and took stock of patient care and related facilities at these health institutions.
When the issues related to water facilities, filthy toilets, delay in drug supply, etc, were taken up during the meeting, the Principal not only failed to give satisfactory reply but also failed to suggest ways to improve the things, said the sources.
"The committee members told the Principal that the problems in GMC start with her and end with her only," one of the committee members said.
He said the Principal didn't have answers of the queries raised by the members, which was "enough to understand that she is not fit for the post. It will be mentioned in the committee report."
The Principal was pulled up by the committee members for adopting a casual approach towards implementation of various circulars and orders in the GMC and its associated hospitals, said the sources.
During the meeting, blame game also played between the management of the GMC and its associated hospital and J&K Medical Supplies Corporation over the delay in supply of drugs and other material. The GMC administration accused the JKMSC of not providing drugs while the latter claimed that the former was lying.
At the end of the meeting, instructions were issued to complete replacement of existing beds in all wards of the GMC within a month, provide fluid to the hospitals within a week, build hall for mothers of pre-mature babies who are forced to sit outside the respective ward, and start Chopra Nursing Home as soon as possible.
