Early Times Report Jammu, June 1: In Protest against no action on their demands, All J&K Transport Welfare Association, J&K Jammu, has announced to go on strike on June 4. All the transporters of J&K State have unanimously decided to observe one-day token strike on June 4 and if our demands are not met by the State Government, we will go on indefinite strike later on and no commercial vehicles will be on roads from Lakhanpur to Srinagar," said T S Wazir, chairman of All J&K Transporter Welfare Association, J&K Jammu, while talking to media persons, here today. He said that the state govt has not fulfilled their promise made to them in a meeting held a few months ago. CM Mehbooba Mufti and Chief Secretary assured them of addressing their demands, but nothing has happened. They alleged that the increased taxes, insurance and fuel prices have disturbed their lives and businesses. The central and state govt have failed to control the price hikes, they said. "Many vehicles have come off the road," Wazir said. He said that they have approached the state govt many times to revise the passenger fare, but nothing has been done. They have also submitted a memorandum on cost of operation to the Deputy CM and Transport Commissioner J&K, but received no help. The prevailing situation has forced them to come out on the roads and protest, while suspending their transport operations, Wazir added. The govt will be responsible for the inconvenience caused to the public, he maintained. The representatives of all the commercial transport, vehicle associations/ unions, including buses, trucks, oil tankers, matadors/mini-buses, taxis, Sumos, Tempo Travelers and autorickshaws, attended the meeting. |
