ASCOMS condemns arrest of Dr Satish Mehta | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 1: Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) & Hospital faculty and resident doctors strongly condemn the arrest of Dr Satish Mehta and his team for an unfortunate demise of the patient in his private clinic. Quoting the judgment of the full bench of Supreme Court of India headed by the then Chief Justice of India Justice R C Lahoti, Justice G P Mathur and Justice P K Balasubramaniam, which states "Before arresting a doctor accused of negligence, the investigating officer would need to get an independent opinion from as doctor preferably a government doctor of the same specialty and then proceed accordingly (Jacob Mathews V/s State of Punjab & Others - 2005). While condemning the incident, the spokespersons said that the law of land is not being followed in the state of J&K as the guidelines of Supreme Court are being openly flouted. The untimely demise of Parveen Kour was also condoled and the faculty expressed grief on the demise. |
