KATRA, June 1: A two Day National Seminar on "Socio-Cultural Impact of Adi Shankaracharya: A Historical Perspective" jointly organized by Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), New Delhi, in collaboration with the School of Philosophy & Culture (SoPC) began here at SMVD University. The Chief Guest of the inaugural function was Prof Nirmal Singh, Speaker, Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly. In his address to participating delegates, Dr Singh explained the relevance of Shankaracharya in the present perspective. He also threw light on cultural and religious heritage of India and its relevance in present day times. The Chairperson of the session was Dr. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVD University who highlighted the importance of Vedic studies in the contemporary world. In the key note addresses, Prof Rajneesh Kumar Shukla, Member Secretary ICHR and Dr Balmukund Pandey, Organizing Secretary Akhil Bhartiya Itihaas Sankalan Yojana stressed on the need to demystify Indian history and authenticate findings, which has flecked the greatness of our glorious past including Shakaracharya's contribution.
