120 men ready to infiltrate, possible attacks planned for June 15-17, say sources | | | Agencies New Delhi, June 8: In a crucial development, intelligence agencies have reportedly warned of militants' plans to execute terror attacks between June 15 and June 17. As per the important intel, these terror attacks are being planned not just to target areas in Jammu and Kashmir but also certain places in Northern India. Sources said that the possibility of major attacks in the northern belt could increase during the last three days of the holy month of Ramzan. Sources also said that there were reports of a "special effort" by terrorists who were now located in launch pads in Pakistan along the Line of Control. According to these sources, the number of terrorists usually spotted at this time in the area is around 60 to 70. However, this year, the number has increased to almost double of the usual count, with nearly 120 terrorists reportedly ready to infiltrate across the border. Reports suggested that many of the terrorists were holed up in Athmuqam area. The targeted areas appeared to be at Tangdhar and Keran sector in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district and gunned down three militants in the process. The infiltration bid was thwarted along the Line of Control (LoC) in Macchil sector of north Kashmir. Earlier, Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat had put the responsibility on Pakistan's shoulders for ushering in peace in the region. News agency had quoted him as saying, "We want peace on the borders, but as you know Pakistan continuously violates the ceasefire that causes loss of life and property. In such case, we have to retaliate. If Pakistan wants peace, we expect them to take the initiative -- which can be to stop infiltration." |
