Aishmuqam-Pahalgam residents demand college
6/8/2018 10:56:33 PM
Early Times Report
Anantnag, June 8: The residents of Aishmuqam and its adjoining villages Friday reiterated their demand of establishing a Degree college in the town for which they have identified two thousand kanals of state land.
Post Friday prayers, residents rallied in the town and requested Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to fulfill her promise by reconstituting technical team for surveying the area. "We demand college, we deserve college," residents shouted during the hour's long sit-in outside Jamia Masjid Aishmuqam.
Residents argued that the technical team constituted by the Higher-Education department for carrying out survey of the area didn't met local civil society members.
"The report submitted by the technical team is politically motivated," they alleged.
Sofi Arfat local Political activist says that they have enough land for establishing the college at Aishmuaqm and the town is linking with all villages and feeding higher-secondary schools.
He said that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in the month of February at Jammu had agreed with the visiting delegation of Aishmuqam and assured to reconstitute the technical team.
Sofi Aarfat said that Aishmuqam is fulfilling all the guidelines and norms and is fit location for opening a college.
"We have over 2000 kanals of land available for the college. Aishmuaqm is already having three Higher-Secondary Schools and six other Higher-Secondary Schools operating the constituency are also connected with Aishmuqam," he said.
He said that contrary to other locations, Aishmuqam has all the sub-divisional offices of all most all the departments besides does have a police station, Munsif Court, BSNL Exchange, Hospital, Municipal Committee and other facilities available which according to him are essential for a college.
Residents said that the town is connecting to every hook and corner of the constituency particularly with Hapthnard-Khayar belt having SC and ST population.
MLA Pahalgam, Altaf Ahmad Wani (Kulo) said that he will not allow government to flout the guidelines and norms.
Last year, Cabinet has Okayed the creation of seventeen colleges in Jammu and Kashmir.
