Editorial & lead story of Early Times did the trick | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 17: On the basis of the lead story and the editorial published in Early Times the centre has decided not to extend unilateral ceasefire in view of the security scenario having been alarming even after the declaration of the ceasefire. Reports about impending infiltraion of foreign mercenaries into Jammu and Kashmir and the frequent ceasefire violations o the LoC and the IB had forced the centre to take a decision against extension of of unilateral ceasefire In addition to this the top Army functionaries besides the police and the intelligence agencies had prevailed upon Prime Minister, Modi, to start counter insurgency operations failing which the situation my witness further slump and drift after which things for the security forces may become difficult to tackle. In fact the Army top functionaries, including the Defence Minister, and other security agencies were not for declaring unilateral ceasefire but Modi had vetoed them simply to keep Mehbooba Mufti and other NC leaders in good humour. The Prime Minister had believed that even the separatists could be wooed to accept an offer for talks. But despite the clamour of separatists for suspending counter insurgency operations they have not been able to respond in the same way as militants a d their supporters had not appreciated the Government gesture. Even Pakistan had not stopped ceasefire violation on the border and latest annoyance to the centre was caused by the reports of Pakistani troops trying to push in groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir for attacking Army installations and convoys and units. This is said to have sealed vacillation on the part of the centre. when the ground realities had directed the centre to stop extending unilateral ceasefire and ask the security forces to start or restart killing of militants who had made it impossible for the political leaders to run the Government. |
