Farooq Abdullah pitching for LS ticket to 'paratrooper' | Party functionaries in a fix | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 25: If all goes well, the opposition National Conference is soon going to nominate a young lady as its candidate for Srinagar parliamentary seat during the Lok Sabha polls slated to be held next year in April. Sources within the party divulged that the party president Dr Farooq Abdullah is pitching for the nomination of the lady in question who has already been in the limelight for projecting communist ideology at the national level. She has been quite vocal during television debates and on social media against the PDP-BJP bonhomie in the state and was in the forefront in criticising the BJP led government at the centre. On Monday, she hinted at her proximity by stating that during the coming polls, the people of Kashmir are going to vote for the NC, giving rise to the speculations that her entry into the party is certain and matter of few days. Meanwhile, the party veterans, middle-rung leaders, and workers have yet come to terms about such sudden decision of the party president who knows the politics of the state well and has been associated with it for decades. If the lady is accorded the mandate from Srinagar, it is going to be interesting to watch how the development would be accepted by the party leaders and workers at the grass root level. "NC is a cadre-based organization and there is no space for the paratroopers. The lady in question has been famous for holding street protests in New Delhi and Making a mountain out of a molehill. That is different in entirety when it comes to Kashmir. You have to be associated with the ground to win any elections in Kashmir- be it Panchayat, local bodies, assembly or the parliament. How come someone come from Delhi and grab the ticket. Will the workers accept her as their leader? They have sacrifices in their kitty and they have done much for the party during the tumultuous times," says a party functionary. Meanwhile, there are also confabulations going on within the party that if the lady is given the ticket to contest the parliamentary elections from Srinagar parliamentary seat, will the party veterans campaign for her. "It goes contrary to the stature of the party's senior leadership that they would seek votes for a paratrooper and a virtual political toddler. The situation is going to be precarious for everyone in the party," sources privy to the development said. There are also reports coming to fore that the majority of the party functionaries aren't against her joining the party but are likely to get disgruntled if the lady in question manages to get the parliament ticket. "There is a proper system in place within the party. How is this possible that anyone coming from outside would pick up a mandate and fight," a party leader said. |
