Guv's directions to ensure punctuality in offices lead to 'encouraging' traffic movement in Srinagar | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 25: It seems the directions issued by Governor Narendra Nath Vohra to the officers manning the different departments to ensure punctuality have been adhered to since a huge rush of vehicles both public and private was seen on Srinagar roads today. Early Times has learnt that movement of public transport was more than encouraging in most of the civil line areas of the summer capital of the city. Although, the movement of public transport was missing in downtown Srinagar the movement of private transport was good in these areas. The movement of public transport in the uptown areas and private transport in downtown Srinagar is significant since the Joint 'Resistance' Leadership (JRL) had asked the people to observe shutdown against the civilian killings. The JRL rescheduled the strike call to Monday from Tuesday. Some of the people who shared their views on this occasion said that the movement of transport has a direct linkage with the directions issued by Vohra with regards to attendance of employees working in different government departments. They said that employees wanted to join duties fearing backlash if they failed to do so. "The state administration headed by the Governor had made it clear that salary of the employees would not be paid unless and until their attendance does not reach the Governor's office. At the same time biometric attendance has also been made compulsory for the people discharging their duties in the various government departments," said this group of people. The people said that the employees did not want to take chance and as such they had to seek for some transport in order to reach their respective offices. In such a manner the public transport more so the Tata Sumos and Chevrolet Taveras could be seen running on the city roads and in some districts of the Kashmir valley as well. "Ever since the Governor rule has been imposed in the state restrictions have not been imposed in the areas falling in downtown Srinagar. During the PDP-BJP government it had become a norm to impose restrictions as and when the separatists would give a call for strike or if any civil casualty would take place in any part of the valley," said the people. The people said that Vohra has a rich experience of handling tough situations in the state since this is the fourth time that Governor's rule has been imposed in Jammu & Kashmir during his tenure. They expressed optimism that overall situation would improve in the valley as the days pass by and the Governor settles in his chair to handle the affairs of the state on day to day basis. |
