Unemployed Engineers up in arms against AFCON demand job policy
1000 MW Pakal-Dool Power Project hits road block
6/26/2018 12:08:49 AM
Early Times Report

Kishtwar, June 25: The unemployed Engineers hailing from different areas of Kishtwar District who are eagerly waiting for the start of 1000 MW Pakal-Dool Power Project in Kishtwar District today staged a massive protest against the authorities of AFCON Private Limited, a construction company which had been awarded a contract for construction of Power house of the said power project at Dool some 12 KM from Kishtwar and demanded comprehensive job policy for engagement of local unemployed Engineers in the project.
Taking a strong note of the ongoing process of recruitment in the company, the unemployed youth lamented that the authorities are not recruiting the local skilled Engineers having M.Tech ,B.Tech and Degrees and Diplomas which is injustice with them.
"We have highly qualified unemployed engineers here in Kishtwar but the said company is hiring engineers from outside Kishtwar district which is totally against the recruitment policy promised by the company at the time of singing of Memorundum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government", alleged Atul Gupta, President Unemployed Engineer Association Kishtwar.
The protestors alleged that the higher authorities of AFCON claimed that they have no policy to engage local engineers from the Kishtwar in the power projects.
The protestors threatened that if the company failed to engage the local unemployed engineers, they will hit the road and will stage a mass protest against the local administration and company authorities for which they are even ready to sacrifice their lives.
They said that if the company and the Administration didn't follow the MoU in which 80% jobs were assured to locals.
"The Pakal-Dool Power Project will follow the fate of Rattle Power Project wherein GVK company ignored the locals at the time of recruitment as a result of which the work on the said project is suspended since last nearly four years" they lamented.
"These projects are for us -- we are at the brink of environmental disaster-- if no jobs are offered to local unemployed youths-- it is better for the Government to wind up the project since we will allow its execution" said angry youths before calling off today's protest.
