JKICS holds deliberation on teaching methods | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 3: SS Sodhi Chairman, J&K Intellectual Civil Society New Delhi, held a meeting with all the members of the society and discussed the various teaching methods so that the students are benefitted more and more for their overall growth. He also stated that sometimes boring lessons do not help the students to develop their natural motivation to learn. Therefore, the teachers should deliver the minimum lectures and instead, use many of the teaching strategies which have been found more effective for students learning. He further stated that many of these methods include some sort of cooperative learning. These can be as basic as "think-pair-share" to as ambitious as problem based learning or project based learning. The Chairman also suggested that teacher should build their personal relationship with the students and make them feel that they care for them. This is a key element and will help the students to motivate themselves for facing the challenges. Sodhi also desired that the teachers should invite the students to have the voice in class room decisions i.e where they sit, what day a test should take place, in what order units are studied, or even where a plant should be placed in the classroom. This can help the students to develop their greater sense of control. Finally, he suggested that we should deal with the students friendly to encourage them in learning the things and making decisions and not like dictators who sometimes either harass the students or insult them in the class rooms. All the members of the Civil society thanked the Chairman for not only explaining the methods of teaching and learning for the benefit of students but also help them in taking the decisions at their own. |
