NHAI not respecting HC stay order | Axing of fruit trees on Ring Road | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 3: In-spite of clear cut directions from the High Court to maintain the existing position of fruit trees which come under Srinagar Ring Road alignment, the officials of NHAI along with Revenue department officials in Budgam are allegedly working in contempt of the said order. The farmers had prayed before the High Court that compensation paid in lieu of fruit trees was inadequate and had prayed for reassessment before the High Court at Srinagar. As reported already the affected farmers of Budgam and Srinagar whose land is going to be acquired for Semi Ring Road had got a great relief from High Court on June 26th after said Court directed the Government to undertake fresh assessment within 28 days. "The officials of NHAI and Revenue department came to our village and directed us to cut down the apple trees , when we showed them orders , the officials declined to abide by the orders. We have now taken up the matter with DC Budgam and Collector and we hope they will give us justice " said a farmers Manzoor Ahmad. As reported already the land owners whose land is to be acquired by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for construction of ring and semi ring roads in Jammu / Kashmir regions are not only aghast against the Government for being paid very less compensation, but the affected people whose fruit trees and orchards are to be cut down are also angry as the compensation paid in lieu of these fruit bearing trees has not been revised from last 23 years. Government pays compensation @ Rs 16 per KG for apple tree / Mango which is to be cut down and the assessment is made by Horticulture Department. Now it has been decided by the constituted committee that compensation may be doubled. "Apple sells @ Rs 50 to 60 /Kg in wholesale market and it is sheer injustice with us if we are paid mere Rs 16 / Kg. I appeal Governor N N Vohra, his advisors, Secretary Horticulture and Director Horticulture Kashmir to come to our rescue " said Fayaz Ahmad of Ranbir Grah Srinagar. |
