Delay in setting up of FTCs denies speedy trial to rape victims
7/3/2018 10:57:09 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 3: A society where dignity of women is no priority, is surely a stigma on the social order which is totally unacceptable. Rising cases of rape is one such disgrace on our society which requires to be dealt with iron hands. Not only stringent laws should be framed to curb the menace of rape but speedy trials related to such cases must be ensured so that the victims could get rid of the pain of heinous crime committed on them. The concept of Fast Track Courts (FTCs) was one such step which could have been helpful in early disposal of rape cases.
Gurdev Singh, an Advocate, said that while the rape cases are definitely a blot on the society, the slow pace of trials of such cases is also a cause of big concern. The failure to set up FTCs in J&K is denying speedy justice to the rape victims. The FTCs are required to streamline the justice delivery system.
Suchin Sharma, an Advocate, said that the idea of establishing FTCs in J&K is the most realistic and ideal step to deliver justice to the rape victims in a time bound manner. FTCs should be introduced at the earliest as much water has already flowed under the bridge with the delay in their formation.
Anil Kumar Sharma, an Advocate, said that the cases like rapes leave a deep impact on the psyche of the victim. In order to give such victims a calming and soothing effect, the cases they are related to are needed to be dispose of speedily which can be possible if the provision of FTCs is introduced in J&K without any further delay.
