Senior leader's silence leaves PDP guessing | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 13: Amid prevailing uncertainty within the party, former senior Minister of the PDP has been holding cards closer to his chest, preferring to maintain silence over the side he is going to take in times to come. This senior PDP leader who was holding a key portfolio during the PDP-BJP coalition in the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been reserving his comments over the formation of the rebel group and hasn't even declared the side he has taken amid all the speculations. His silence has been causing much worry to the PDP that has been struggling to keep the flock together and not to allow any fragmentation within the camp. Several MLAs former minister Imran Ansari, his uncle Abid Ansari, MLC Yasir Reshi and former minister Abdul Majeed Padder have already stated that they are leaving the party and are ready to become the part of new government formation in the state. However, a senior minister and a senior PDP leader who was accused earlier of being the part of the coup when Mehbooba Mufti was reluctant to form the government in 2016, has been silent ever since the political storm within the PDP erupted. As per the reports, this former minister in question hasn't spoken a single word that could have revealed his stand ever since the BJP pulled out its support from the government on June 19, this year. "The fact is that everyone is worried within the party about the stand the senior PDP leader is going to take. His decision is going to be crucial and could well turn the tables around within the political landscape of the state. If he runs away, it is going to be a herculean task to retain the other disgruntled voices within the party," said a PDP functionary. Imran Raza Ansari, the former IT and Higher Education Minister, had pioneered the coup within the PDP saying "PDP and the government had of late been reduced to a family opera where the brothers, the uncles, the aunties and other relatives would play the protagonist, and to continue with such a party was not only useless but a humiliation too." Meanwhile, the party Thursday said that it has removed Yasir Reshi as the party's district president for Bandipora, cracking the whip on leaders who had publicly criticised Mehbooba. In a statement, the PDP said Baramulla district president Irshad Ahmad Kar will look after the party affairs of Bandipora district for the time being. |
