Kashmiri youth 'one of us' but they should stop stone-pelting, avoid areas where operations are on: Army | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 14: Stressing that the people and youth of Kashmir are "one of us", the Army has appealed to Kashmiri youth to refrain from pelting security forces with stones and stay away from areas where the Army is conducting operations. "It's my appeal to public and youth to not pelt stones on Army and to keep themselves away from spots where Army conducts its operations," Lt. General AK Bhatt, GOC 15 Corps said, as quoted by news agency . "We're not upset with public and youth of Kashmir because they are one of us. It's our duty to serve them." General Bhatt took over as the 47th Corps Commander of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps earlier this year. His remarks came a day after Union Minister RK Singh said that "certain mullahs" in several mosques in the Valley were inciting Kashmiris to take to stone-pelting. Earlier this month, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said a lot of "false information" was being passed on to the youth in Kashmir leading to stone-pelting incidents. The Army chief had indicated that there were two ways to deal with this issue. "One is a harsh way, to take action. The other is to make them understand that such acts are not good for the person doing it or for the state itself," Gen Rawat was quoted as saying. With incidents of stone-pelting rising in the state, some girls and women have also taken to throwing stones in recent months. In wake of this, the Central Reserve Police Force recently established a team of female commandos specially trained to deal with stone-pelters in various parts of the Valley. |
