Jammu, July 28: INTACH Jammu chapter as a part of natural heritage mission organized a Vanmahotsav drive at Nagrota near Bann- Toll Plaza along the national highway on the barren foothills of Shivaliks in collaboration with Forest Department. The traditional heritage plants of Jammu i.e. Peepal (Ficus Religiosa) and Banyan (Ficus Benghalensis) were planted and more than 40 organizations from across the Jammu region participated in this drive. Devender Singh Rana MLA Nagrota was the chief guest on the occasion who along with S.K Bharti, IFS Chief Conservator Forest Jammu, Dr. C. M. Seth. (State Co- Convener INTACH), S.M. Sahni (Convener INTACH Jammu Chapter), Satwant Singh Rissam (Event Coordinator INTACH) and representatives of various departments/ organization launched the plantation drive. Devinder Singh Rana appreciated the efforts of INTACH Jammu Chapter and Forest Department for planting traditional-heritage plants along the national highway. He also said that this plantation drive shall be remembered by the future generations. He further thanked all the participating departments, organizations, NGO's and the host community of Nagrota for supporting the pious mission started by INTACH. During the drive total 270 saplings were planted with the support of Forest Department, Wild life Deptt, Social Forestry, Environmental-Remote Sensing, Urban forestry, Food Craft Institute-Nagrota, Toll Plaza Management-NH-44, JKTDC, J&K Tourism, Environmental Sciences Department University of Jammu, Rural Development Department, J&K Police, IIPA- Jammu, Lions Club- Jammu, Rotary Club Jammu Tawi, Bharat Petroleum, Floriculture Department, NCC Directorate, Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department, Machel Mata Society, J&K Paryavaran Sanstha, Gandhi Sewa Sadan and several Sarpanch and Panch of Nagrota constituency were present along with local residents of nearby villages. |
