Separatists, mainstream parties threaten Supreme Court on Art 35-A | Warn bloodshed, violence if verdict was against their wishes | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 28: Termed as 'biggest constitutional fraud' by the legal experts, Article 35-A once again generated heat in Kashmir Valley because hearing on the constitutional validity of this Article is going to held in Supreme Court on August 6. Although the matter is sub-judice, separatist as well as some main stream political leaders are trying to terrorize Supreme Court by giving threats of bloodshed and violence if verdict was not delivered in their favour. Threats given by Kashmir Centric separatists as well as main stream parties are glaring examples of threatening legal system of the country and brazen attempt to influence judiciary by giving warning of bloodshed and violence. Separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that the people of Kashmir were watching the developments over Article 35A, and warned that machinations against it will be opposed "tooth and nail". The separatist leader and chairman of a faction of the Hurriyat Conference threatened an agitation in defence of Article 35A and said Kashmiris would not take machinations against them lying down. Not only Mirwaiz but many other leaders have warned bloodshed if Supreme Court failed to give verdict as per their wishes on Article 35-A. Jammu Kashmir Civil Society Coordination Committee has called for a complete shutdown on August 6-the day when Supreme Court will hear a petition with regard to the revocation of Article 35A. Committee demanded that Supreme Court should dismiss the petitions filed for abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A fixed on 6 August 2018. The Article 35A, incorporated in the constitution in 1954, grants special privileges and rights to permanent residents of J&K and debars non-residents from buying land or property, getting government jobs, or voting in Assembly elections in the state. Victims of Article 35-A Valmikies, West Pakistani Refugees (WPRs) and women- married out-side J&K, are worst the victims of this Article which enables the State Assembly to define "permanent residents" and to give them special rights and privileges. |
