Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 28: Despite passing of six years, the government is yet to probe alleged bungling of crores of rupees in the name of Wifi system and e-ticketing in Gulmarg. A written complaint forwarded to the then Chief Minister had revealed that a huge amount of money was spent by one of the top officials of the Tourism department on Wifi system. "Crores of rupees were spent on e-ticketing but the whole project failed. The money released was allegedly meant to go into the pockets of the said official and his kin", the complaint had alleged. Sources told Early Times that though the employees had short a letter to then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and had requested him to enquire the facts and order an enquiry against the officer, neither any enquiry was initiated nor action was taken against the said officer. "The officer is presently enjoying a top post in the Civil Secretariat here," sources said. In another shocking revelation the complaint in possession of Early Times had revealed that the chair lift at Kongdori, Gulmarg was installed/commissioned in 2011 at a cost of Rs 20 crore, but after nearly a year it was defunct and earned only Rs one or two lakhs. "The construction of this chair lift was done with an expected income of crores of rupees as this was done without ascertaining the economic viability of this project "the complaint had said. The complaint further had mentioned that the civil projects and the civil works which were undertaken in the said officer's tenure were done only by his relatives. "In the Board of Directors meeting it was decided that all the civil works at the projects will be carried out by the engineering wing of Gulmarg Development Authority but all the works were carried out by the head draftsmen without a proper planning. The constructions and demolitions of the same were regular feature and deliberate by the said officer as the contractor engaged for the same were relatives of the said officer," the complaint had alleged. The document further revealed that 50 causal labourers mostly relatives of the officer were engaged in Cable car Corporation who were getting salaries worth 10,000 to Rs 20,000 without proper verification formalities and any kind of advertisement. "No service rules and regulations were implemented as only favourite and undeserving were promoted and the employees with more than 25 years of service were not considered by the said officer even for time bound promotions," sources said. |
