Government may hold panchayat polls after Amarnath Yatra | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 28: A one-day panchayats convention was held in Srinagar today regarding panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which was attended by more than 500 sarpanches and local representatives from across the state. They demanded that since last two years panchayat polls have not taken place in Jammu and Kashmir and local election should be conducted as early as possible. Meanwhile, government sources indicated that after the Amarnath Yatra, the polls for local bodies may be held in September-October. All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference demanded that democracy should be started on ground. They added since last 5 years, more than 15 sarpanches have been killed and now time has come for local governance. All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference chairman Shafiq Mir said, "We have to address local issue through panchayat election. We can get thousands crore rupee for local development through panchayati Raj institution." |
