Killer roads claim 18 more lives in Kishtwar | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Kishtwar, Sept 14: People of Kishtwar woke with loud sirens of ambulances Friday morning as its killer roads gulped 18 more lives and left several others injured in yet another tragic road accident. A minibus bearing registration no. JK17 0633 on its way from Keshwan, Sirgwari and its adjoining villages heading towards Kishtwar town met with a tragic accident and skidded off into deep gorge near Thakerie, leaving at least 18 people dead and 15 injured, 9 of them critically, who were evacuated to GMCH Jammu for treatment. The incident succeeds two other similar incidents less than a fortnight ago, in which atleast 20 people died. Following the accident, within no time hundreds of people assembled at the accident site and joined hands in the rescue operation already launched by the troops of 11 RR who were the first to reach the accident site. The army was soon joined by SDRF team and team of local NGO Ababeel. Both the MLA from Kishtwar Sunil Kumar Sharma and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori also reached the spot and expedited the rescue operation along with SSP Kishtwar Rajinder Gupta and ACR Kishtwar Indeerjeet Parihar who also reached the spot. After seeing the critical condition of the injured passengers, three critically injured patients were airlifted in a private chopper at first instance while 8 other injured were airlifted to GMC Jammu in IAF Chopper after getting first medical attention at District Hospital Kishtwar. As the rescuers comes close to the debris of the ill fated vehicle, 8 persons were found to be dead on spot while as many as 25 injured patients were shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar in which four persons were declared as brought dead by the doctors at Kishtwar hospital while four others died before they were airlifted. It was after hectic efforts-8 more critically injured passengers were airlifted to GMC Jammu in IAF chopper and among the 11 critically injured passengers shifted to Jammu, two died at GMC Hospital while 5-6 more passengers are said to be in critical condition while the six passengers including a 2 year old minor girl is undergoing treatment at District Hospital Kishtwar. Angry people blamed poor roads and permissi n granted to old and outdated vehicles to ply on the roads in Kishtwar District and called upon the government to look into the issue. Meanwhile Governor Satyapal Malik also express grief and shock over the loss of lives in Kishtwar minibus accident and announced Rs. 5 lacs ex-gratia for the next of kin of deceased and Rs. 50000 for the injured. Beside several political and non political organizations expressed grief and shock over the loss of lives. As per the details, the deceased include Misra Begum wife of Nazir Rather, Umar son of Majeed Rather, Qasim son of Taj Din, Nazir Ahmed son of Abdul Aziz, Mohammad Yousaf son of Maqbool Rather, Majeeda Begum wife of Ghulam Hussain Khandey, Tariq Hussain son of Ghulam Hussain Khandey, Nazir Ahmed Sheikh son of Ali Shah all resident of Sirgwari, Shaheena Begum wife of Ghulam Nabi, Jabber son of Bashir Ahmed, both resident of Srawan, Ashraf Hussain son of Bashir Ahmed, Nasir son of Habibullah resident of Ghat Doda, Vikram son of Ashok Kumar resident of Kanoor Thakrie, Akther Hussain Butt son of Mohammad Ramzan, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din son of Ghulam Rasool Rather both resident of Nagarna Keshwan, Girdari Lal son of Diya Ram resident of Murna Anjole. While two perons who died at GMC Hospital Jammu were identified as Kuleed Kumar son of Mohinder Singh resident of Thakrie and Abdullah Sheikh son of Rehman Sheikh resident of Keshwan. Those who are undergoing treatment at GMC Jammu include Lal Singh son of Phool Singh, Waseem Raja, Ashok Kumar all resident of Thakrie, Mukhta Begum wife of Habibullah resident of Ghat Doda, Abid Rashid son of Subhan Sheikh, Abdullah Sheikh son of Rehman Sheikh, Sajda Begum wife of Abdul Rashid all resident of Keshwan, Fareena wife of Ghulam Nabi resident of Srawana, Tariq Hussain son of Shabir Hussain, Sakeena Begum wife of Tariq Hussain both resident of Dadpath. Those undergoing treatment at District Hospital Kishtwar include Irfan son of Mohammad Shafi resident of Nagni Keshwan, Baby Aisha daughter of Ghulam Nabi resident of Srawana Thakrie, Muddasir son of Mohammad Ayoob resident of Bhunjwah, Azhar Hussain son of Mohi-ud-Din resident of Keshwan, Yousaf son of Bahan Naik and Mohammad Ismail son of Mangoo resident of Udna Sirgwari. |
