Chief Secretary at Delhi; notification of ULBs elections very soon | Centre wants to give PDP, NC a jolt | | Early Times Report jammu, Sept 14: After ruling out any deferment of forthcoming urban local bodies elections in the state, Chief Secretary B.V.R. Subrahmanyam has gone to New Delhi to brief central government about preparations and steps taken so far for the smooth conduct of these polls. Credible sources said that notification of these elections would be issued after return of Chief Secretary from Delhi. "Union Government has made it clear to the J&K government that there is no question of succumbing before 'blackmail' tactics of PDP and NC", sources said and revealed that state administration has already given direction to conduct elections as per schedule. Credible sources said that during his meeting with party leaders at Jammu on Wednesday, BJP national general secretary and incharge J&K, Ram Madhav had also made it clear that Centre is committed to conduct elections at any cost to give a clear message to PDP and NC. Important to mention here that on Wednesday Chief Secretary had denied reports that the upcoming municipal elections are likely to be deferred. Scotching earlier reports that the Governor's administration was considering deferment of municipal polls, the Chief Secretary said: "Municipal and Panchayat polls will be held as per schedule". National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have already announced boycott of these polls. The Congress has also said that currently, the ground situation in the Valley is not conducive for holding these polls. |
