Politicians, bureaucrats love to play Golf but don't pay any fee | Hum VIP hain! | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report srinagar, Sept 14: Bizarre but true! In Jammu and Kashmir, politicians and top level bureaucrats don't pay for playing Golf game at different state owned Golf Courses thus fail tourism department from generating revenue out of these assets. According to documents accessed by Early Times, Royal Spring Golf Course Srinagar has officially exempted the Chairman, Members of the governing body, honorary members and members of the management committee from payment of the entry fee and monthly subscription. The authorities have also exempted the families of all individuals who fall in the 'exempted' category. "What agitates us is the fact that all those, who have been exempted from paying fee, actually earn soundly," a golfer told Early Times, however wished anonymity. He claimed that the politicians and bureaucrats often play golf or come to enjoy at Royal Spring Golf Course but they aren't being charged for any facility they enjoy. Golf Courses across state of maintained and streamlined can generate good revenue for the state but these valuable assets are being used to strike deals and please bosses. At Lidder Valley Pahalgam Golf Course, Politicians and bureaucrats but they too aren't being charged. "For the first time Pahalgam Development Authority which maintains Pahalgam Golf Course has started charging visitors for entering into the Golf Course otherwise they would allow any Politicians and bureaucrats and their families," he added. Situation at Sidrah, Patni-top and other places is similar, he said. As reported earlier, The Golf Development Authority, constituted four years ago by Jammu and Kashmir Government, has miserably failed to take over state golf across courses due to the reasons best known to the government. The authority, despite the passage of over four years now has also failed to streamline golfing activities despite the state having world class golf courses. In 2013 NC-Congress coalition government constituted Golf Development and Management Authority in a bid to streamline golfing activities besides promoting Golf and managing the Golf courses. The authority was mandated to maintain, manage and promote all types of golf infrastructure and to establish golf information centers and golf courses. The Golf Development Authority was also mandated to hold Golf tournaments. However, surprisingly the Golf Development Authority hasn't yet even taken over Golf Courses from Jammu and Kashmir tourism department. |
