Kishtwar, Sept 23: heavy rains lashed Chenab valley and wreaked havoc in Kishtwar town. The rains caused landslides along Srinagar-Jammu and Jammu-Kishtwar highways.
The rains while ending the dry spell caused a major dip in temperature as higher reaches received season's first snowfall.
A famous Tourist destination Sinthan Top situated at an altitude of 12500 feet above sea level on Kishtwar-Chatroo-Srinagar road also witnessed seasoned first snowfall along with higher reaches of Bhaderwah.
The rainfall caused road blockades subjecting passengers and people to inconvenience. The authorities, however, said men and machinery had been pressed into service to open the highways.
Reports said several vehicles were stranded on both the highways . When contacted senior officials said that the situation is being closely monitored adding that men and machinery has been kept ready for road clearance.
He said that due to heavy rainfall the road clearance work is hampered.
Meanwhile due heavy showers form last several hours in Kishtwar, the rain water created havoc in many areas of Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas after drains within Municipal limits over flowed inundating several areas including Guldhali Chowk, Amar Market, Bhandari Mohallah, Kichloo Mohallah, Guriyan, Bunastan and Malik Market, ITI, Shaheedi Nazar, Hospital Chowk where the flooded water into the shops and some houses in low lying areas as well as homes alongside the chocked drains.
The people urged upon the senior officials to look into the matter and save them from day to day miseries.
Similarly the inhabitants of Umar Mohallah also suffered due to faulty drainage. The drains near ITI Kishtwar, Shaheedi Mazar chowk & Dak Banglow chowk were also chocked due to deposition of slit, sand and mud.
