Writes Boyes instead of Boys in certificate, Principal signs it without correction | Government School teacher makes mockery of English, misspells many words | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 23: There was a time when it was thought that the best among the lot in the society get an entry into the education sector and become teachers. However, of late the education sector has been badly 'infected' and that gets reflected every now and then. Teachers are considered to be nation builders and as such there is more responsibility on their shoulders. When a teacher fails to discharge his or her responsibilities a nation is doomed to fall and same is happening in Jammu & Kashmir. Principal Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Batmaloo virtually 'murdered' the English language by using words which have never been used in the contemporary dictionary. The usage of words by a teacher and that too by a teacher who is heading a government school is totally uncalled for. Words like secondary, certified, completed, govt and boys were 'mutilated' by the teacher in question and the language used by him has also come under scanner. In satirical terms one can say that the Principal Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Batmaloo has invented his own dictionary by introducing new words. The 'introduction' of new words and 'murder' of English language came to the fore after Principal Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Batmaloo issued couple of certificates in favour of a student of the school. The certificates were issued in order to certify that the student has completed some of the projects. Such is the irresponsible attitude of the Principal that in heading of the letter head word Secoundry has been written instead of Secondary. Later on in the text of the two certificates the teacher has not bothered to check the spelling of words that are universally acclaimed and used many a times in a particular draft. The teacher who has drafted the two certificates used words like certifide, compeleted, govet and boyes have been used instead of regular words like certified, completed govt and boys. Govt is the short form of the word government and is used in official communication as well as in drafts prepared by journalists, advocates, doctors, engineers, teachers and common people. Interestingly the language used by the drafter of the certificates can easily become talk of the town as some of the sentences don't convey any meaning whatsoever. In other words we can say that the drafter virtually 'murdered' the English language but the real fault lies with the Principal since he was supposed to check the words and language used. Since the certificates carry the name and designation of the Principal it is quite natural that he would come under fire from the people in general and critics in particular. One can only feel sorry for the whole system where there is no scope for checks and balances with the guilty managing to run away. |
