Forget bereaved families of cops, Dr Abdullah calls on DGP 'for PR' | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 23: Instead of visiting the families of the three poor-cops recently killed by militants in Shopian district of south Kashmir, Member Parliament and National Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah called on the Director General of Police Dilbag Singh here to express his condolences, triggering a fresh controversy. Sources said the National Conference was looking for a reason to improve Personal Relation(PR)s with the new DGP and that the party found killings of three cops in Shopian, the "ripe time to grab the opportunity." Sources said Dr Abdullah was advised that it was "appropriate time" to call on the DGP. Sources said Dr Abdullah spent around half an hour talking to the DGP at the meeting held at latter's office. But the "style and venue of condolence" has offended the society in general. "If he was really pained by the killings of the three cops, he should have visited the poor families. But the point is that he is more interested in PR than sharing sorrow of any poor man," said a former police official. He said it has happened for the first time that a politician visited the police chief to condole the killings. It's pertinent to mention that recently when rifleman Aurangzeb was killed by militants, the Defense Minister Nirmala Sitaraman personally visited the family of the bereaved in a frontier district in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said the bereaved families of slain cops have taken a serious note of the "drama" of the NC patron over the killings of their beloveds. "This is height of greed that this man exploited our pain to improve his relations with the police," said one of the bereaved, on the condition of anonymity. It was reliably learnt that party has already started facing heat on the development with people taking dig at the Abdullahs on the social media. "He had gone for a photo session to the DGP. Otherwise what prevented him from visiting the bereaved," said a netizen. Last week militants killed three policemen after abducting them, heightening security in the restive region. Despite repeated attempts Dr Abdullah couldn't be contacted for comments. |
