Transporters observe strike, damage vehicles
10/1/2018 11:14:53 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 1: All Jammu and Kashmir Transporters Welfare Association observed strike on Monday demanding a hike in fares. The transporters registered their protest by shouting anti-government slogans and taking out rallies in the winter capital of the state. The main reason of observing stike was alleged harassment by the Traffic Police officials and some officers in the Regional Transport Office Jammu and seeking revision in the passenger fare.
The rally was led by the All Jammu and Kashmir Transporters Welfare Association Chairman Trilok Singh Wazir.
Wazir on the occasion said that in view of the steep hike in the prices of diesel and petrol, the Government must go for revision in the passenger fare and freight charges. They said that a minor hike given recently by the Government was unacceptable to them. The rate of diesel has gone from Rs 68 to Rs 76 per litre in last few months and Transport Commissioner should revise the passenger fare.
They further alleged that Railway authorities at Jammu are charging very high parking fee and are not maintaining bus, mini-bus and taxi stands there. They all are lying in bad shape. They are charging Rs 2134 per bus per month and Rs 1184 per taxi per month as parking fee which is very high.
Wazir pointed out that Govt issued order No. HUD/LSG/ULBNJK/79/2017 dated 29-3/2017 and gave directions to all the concerned not to charge Adda fees from the vehicles plying on National Highways but this order was not implemented till today. The Government must intervene to withdraw this Adda fees. The protestors damaged the vehicles which plied on road, ignoring the strike.
